answers to these commonly-asked questions useful...
Are
there risks involved in cosmetic surgery?
Complications can occur in any surgery, but it depends on the surgeon's
skill, the nature of the operation and the patient's constitution . We
can provide information sheets to all procedures of breast surgery presented
on this website.
Will there be
much bruising and swelling?
The degree of swelling
and bruising varies between patients. Generally the bruising and swelling
is moderate and will go within approximately 4 weeks. Certain firmness
in the breast can stay for months before disappearing completely.
However the homeopathic drug called Arnica will often help.
Will I be left with scars?
Scars are always visible. They are an inevitable part of the healing process
of any surgery.
They will not disappear but generally do improve with time.
However, the "Asplund Vertical Minimal Scar Breast Reduction Technique"-
as the name suggests - leaves the patients with less scars as well as
"better scars", as one can close the wound with less tension.
Does cosmetic surgery hurt? Anaesthetics?
The operation will last between 1 and 3 hours and is performed under
general anaesthesia. Whilst you are asleep, local anaesthetic is added
both before and at the end of the operation. This is to minimise post-operative
pain.
After surgery, any discomfort can be controlled by medication. The
important thing to remember is that post-surgery discomfort is temporary.
Will my back pain
go?
Investigations has showed that 60% of the patients that undergo breast
reduction surgery can get rid of their back pain altogether and another
20% have less pain.
Will there be much bleeding?
Adding adrenaline to the local anaesthetics reduces considerably the bleeding
during the operation and very rarely is a blood transfusion needed.
Can I still breastfeed after surgery?
Some of the women who undergo breast reduction can breast feed after the
surgery, however, it is more likely that you will lose the ability to
breast feed. It also does depend on what type of breast operation you
need.
When can I go back to work?
Most patients go home the day after the surgery. You will need someone
to help you for the first 1-2 days. You will probably need to stay away
from work for 2 weeks after the operation or if you do heavy physical
work, you should refrain from work for a little bit longer.
When can I start going at the Gym again?
Generally you will be able to enjoy sports after 6 weeks.
